The First of June

My hand held on to strings

these lives

floating away.

My mother first

the most determined

wrapped around herself

like a seed of death.

Was gone.

Into her room a wind

blew

a balloon

metallic message read

“Happy Birthday.”

Her husband’s angry face

became a whimpering child

death bed attempt to marry the waitress

from the daily restaurant:

Wanting to know at last

he could be loved.

Surprised into existence,

my hypochondriac ex

justified his medicated life

by drowning in his lungs.

Within four years they all

floated to another place

and where were you

to whom I turned in grief.

Where were you

who

once would put

your shielding arms

around me

but gone as well.

Up Coming Classes: ART, PHOTOGRAPHY, ART CARDS

As I recover from wrecking my body working on my shed, I will take the opportunity to catch up with the backlog. Today it is a good day to post the courses I am teaching over the summer months.

First on my calendar is for Gallery Vertigo Smarties Series. On June 6th making art cards or memory books is explored at the lively, happening galley across from Nolan’s Drug Store in Vernon Drop is from 2 to 4 and leave a donation in the jar. http://www.galleryvertigo.com/programs.html

Next Sunday I will be teaching making hand made art cards at Gallery Vertigo in Vernon. The classes have proved to be very popular and wonderful experiences for me. First of all seeing parents, grandparents and children of all ages working together to make cards to take away with them is just plain fun.

Sometimes the four year old is showing mom or dad how he made something and he or she ends up instructing the parents how to push boundaries. Often because the little people are in the moment they are the most fearless at trying new statements of art. What will be most fun about this session is the creation of father’s day cards.

On July 31st Blogging from 9 am to 1 pm will take the student through the process of goal setting and learning effective blog writing. The course is geared to explore the individual goals of the students who have enrolled.

As always, I do teach one on one for those who are on the path but want some personal advice along the way. Private classes are $25 an hour and taught out of my home until such time as I complete my home studio.

When it is gray and raining, sometimes the best antidote is to grab some colorful paper, work some colorful images or write some colorful language and heat up one’s life with passion. Generate your own sunshine.

Extreme Makeover: Exhibition at the Rotary Centre for the Arts, Kelowna

Extreme Makeover is the show which is currently on display at the Rotary Centre for the Arts at 421 Cawston Avenue and the corner of Ellis. The work that I have done for close to 13 years is on display for the public to view until June 1st. At that time it goes into storage and my life will move away from Kelowna.

My friends Angie and Lil did most of the work for hanging the show

This is probably the last opportunity Kelowna residents will have to view my work all at once, in one place. Large pieces such as red/black making a statement at 5 feet by 4 are difficult to show in many venues. The 7 foot pieces of Feng Shui which explore fire, earth/wood, wind/spirit, water and metal are all together as they are meant to be viewed.

The show is free and open to the public from 9 am until 8 pm. In the display cases are the inspirational door stops I have created, tee shirts and funky purses. All of these items are on at sale prices because I need to pull into storage and wish to have as little as possible to actually cart back.

My focus these days is preparing the storage facility, getting the house and yard in order and finishing up teaching my class for Okanagan College.

Today I will finish marking exams, begin to bring order to the yard and get some painting and filling of window gaps with the fun expanding foam that bonds permanetly to everything including clothing and skin.

The iris are in bloom and each year I forget how delicate and translucent the white ones are. They are wonderful filters for sunlight.

Also, I will be hosting some really fun workshop for the Fat Cat Children’s Festival. What amazes me is how the child’s creativity and bravery can open up the mother or father to try things. I always encourage the parent to join in and they are actually the ones who are most surprised at what they can create. Our focus becomes so much on our children that we can forget to experience our own journey. http://www.fatcatfestival.ca/stations.htm The actual stations are not up yet, but check back on this link and they will be in a few weeks.

Private commissions are looming. I have a commission for a couple who purchased a piece from me and want two more to go on either side.  That will be next after I create order in my home. I also have a CD cover to design in the near future. I really enjoy doing graphics for journals, book jackets, Cd covers and stage props. Really exciting to me are the various forms my art can take.

The sun is shining. I have had a delicious coffee. My friends are all around me. Watch out world, I am healing physically and emotionally. The adventure begins.

May you go in Joy.
