Oct 29th, 2007 paper work for art shipment

We have almost completed all of the paper work to ship the art. Today I will finalize with UPS the shipping details and pay. We have purchased backpacks… with the intention of going minimalist. His roots back has an orange beaver and mine has a pink beaver. One pack for each of us. What a challenge. We usually take two over stuffed suitcases, various coats, pillows and a cooler to go away for the weekend.

We purchased ear plugs and eye masks for the plane trip and I stated my intention of wearing both when we are traveling in Italian traffic. We have viewed some on line video clips of Italian traffic. Check that out if you want to feel safer on the road…where ever you are. The problem is that most Canadians do not have the 360 degree peripheral vision and lighting quick reflexes of Italians. It is said an Italian can ride a scooter, talk on a cell phone, drink a coffee and carry a baby under one arm without dropping, spilling, stuttering or hesitating to charge in.

I have all new work framed up for the two upcoming shows in the next three weeks. Cameron played for the Kamloops Symphony this weekend as the Kelowna rhythm section of Neville Bowman on keyboards, Scott Gamble on drums and Cameron on bass filled out the tribute to Nat King Cole. Vancouver singer Dee Daniels was spectacular.

Cameron has one more gig at the Vernon Jazz Club coming up. He is hoping to receive his journeyman papers any day which will be a big boost in several ways.

We are considering where we might want to go while we are away on our 42 day adventure. Oh the ideas are grandiose. But seasoned travelers tell us to pretty much find a place and just explore. The sensory overload can be daunting, we are told.

Looking back Oct 19, 2007: Europe

Cameron and I are very intriqued by the process of shipping art. We have learned how to enjoy red tape, failed connections and contradictory messages. He has constructed two beautiful wooden cases for my art. We rarely get an opportunity to read the guide books we have purchased because he is so busy with musical performances and I have been getting work ready for four different shows. We have friends who lifted off two weeks ago and from their emails it seems as if it is truly possible to arrive in Europe and travel around. We are still surprising ourselves that we are undertaking this journey.

Cameron claims he will be excited on the plane. Our plans are becoming more and more grandiose. However, we do have hotels pegged down for London, Paris and Florence. The rest will be loosey goosey.

We swear we are only taking two backpacks. I have already started to lay aside things in a “trip basket”: money belts, neck wallet, ear plugs, photo copies of our pass ports. We still need to buy health insurance for the trip, notify VISA of our upcoming alien behavior oh… and get the blasted crates cleared through customs, EPS and UPS.

Cameron will be playing for the Kamloops Symphony next weekend, I have two major art shows coming up so the preparation will be in dribs and drabs.

I have finished painting the house and cleaning up the garden beds. Now we have to put all of our fantasy building project materials undercover for the winter. Also, I have to purchase some Christmas gifts for the kids and grandkids to be shipped early because we will be in Paris on Christmas!!!!
