Extreme Makeover: Exhibition at the Rotary Centre for the Arts, Kelowna

Extreme Makeover is the show which is currently on display at the Rotary Centre for the Arts at 421 Cawston Avenue and the corner of Ellis. The work that I have done for close to 13 years is on display for the public to view until June 1st. At that time it goes into storage and my life will move away from Kelowna.

This is probably the last opportunity Kelowna residents will have to view my work all at once, in one place. Large pieces such as red/black making a statement at 5 feet by 4 are difficult to show in many venues. The 7 foot pieces of Feng Shui which explore fire, earth/wood, wind/spirit, water and metal are all together as they are meant to be viewed.

The show is free and open to the public from 9 am until 8 pm. In the display cases are the inspirational door stops I have created, tee shirts and funky purses. All of these items are on at sale prices because I need to pull into storage and wish to have as little as possible to actually cart back.

My focus these days is preparing the storage facility, getting the house and yard in order and finishing up teaching my class for Okanagan College.

Today I will finish marking exams, begin to bring order to the yard and get some painting and filling of window gaps with the fun expanding foam that bonds permanetly to everything including clothing and skin.

Also, I will be hosting some really fun workshop for the Fat Cat Children’s Festival. What amazes me is how the child’s creativity and bravery can open up the mother or father to try things. I always encourage the parent to join in and they are actually the ones who are most surprised at what they can create. Our focus becomes so much on our children that we can forget to experience our own journey. http://www.fatcatfestival.ca/stations.htm The actual stations are not up yet, but check back on this link and they will be in a few weeks.

Private commissions are looming. I have a commission for a couple who purchased a piece from me and want two more to go on either side.  That will be next after I create order in my home. I also have a CD cover to design in the near future. I really enjoy doing graphics for journals, book jackets, Cd covers and stage props. Really exciting to me are the various forms my art can take.

The sun is shining. I have had a delicious coffee. My friends are all around me. Watch out world, I am healing physically and emotionally. The adventure begins.

May you go in Joy.

Wine Art and Music at the Rotary Centre for the Arts

Two nights ago the WAM event brought in 45 people to my studio space. It was wonderful to have the opportunity to share my work with others. Many of the attendees were residents of Kelowna. Even more pleasing is that locals are supporting local art.

Michael Garding put together a group for the show. Cameron came down after he finished his gig in Penticton at the wine festival there and sat in for a bit. He has played with the drummer, Martin Lord, in Just in Time. For three years the trio was the award winning Jazz group at the B.C. Music competition. And strangely enough NONE of the guys got ahold of friends or relatives and had them send in nominations or votes.

Art Shows: Opportunities

This morning I entered Snap to Grid with The Los Angeles Centre for Digital Art http://www.lacda.com/. I have entered many of their competitions previously and always make a point of being in their unjuried art show because it is good to have my work out in a field of other digital artists. The entry deadline is October 3rd so if YOU are a digital artist jump on the opportunity. I wished they would list the names of the participants because I really enjoy following other artists’ work.

Locally, I received the opportunity to hang work in the Mission Library. It is really wonderful when the local arts council takes on the responsibility of finding venues for artists to present their work. I was working on my business plan just this morning and examining my “perfect customer.” Most of my sales have been to people living in the Mission, so this is really a happy coincidence.

Arriving in my email was a newsletter from my hard working friend and fellow artist, Julia Trops. She has a studio downstairs from mine in the Rotary Centre for the Arts in Kelowna and she is actively helping the Livessence Figurative Arts Group with a newsletter. In the following sections, we will know where it came from and how it varies from company to company. overnight viagra By going together, the doctor can fully extract soft tadalafil the needed information from the couple. Livessence will hold a holiday show on Friday and Saturday, November 14 and 15. A Gift of Colour will exhibit the work of members using the elements of color. I don’t see the hours posted in the newsletter however, the Rotary Centre at 421 Cawston Avenue is open from 8 am until 10 pm most days.

This Thursday is the First Thursday Art Crawl with free food and wine. Come down with your family if you are visiting Kelowna as a cultural tourist or if you are a tourist in your own town. To check out events and classes offered at the Rotary Centre go to http://www.rotarycentreforthearts.com

There are a lot of things happening in my life. Art shows are coming up. Pieces are selling. I am moving into the multi-media, non representational, abstract geometric realm with gusto. Several years of secretly working these images has given me the confidence to start putting them out there. The images originate from my childhood when I would close my eyes when hearing music and see shapes and colors dancing. Now they dance for all to see.

You are invited to the following local exhibits by artist Cherie Hanson, Studio 205.

From April until October the Artists@Work group invites the public to the First Thursday Art Crawl at the Rotary Centre for the Arts, 421 Cawston Avenue, Kelowna, B.C. from 4 pm until 7 pm the first Thursday of each of the six months from April until October. Free Food, music and a chance to visit with the participating artists makes this a must-attend event.

The definition for Abstract art is art that departs significantly from natural appearances. Forms are modified or changed to varying degrees in order to emphasize certain qualities or content. Recognizable references to original appearances may be slight. The term is also used to describe art that is nonrepresentational. Artist Cherie Hanson begins with a photograph that holds meaning for her and abstracts it. The resulting image is bold, colorful and visually intense. Foreground, mid ground and background shifts as well as movement on the surface of the image create images which “dance on canvas”.
