Shot Gun, Firing into the Universe

Is it scattered? Perhaps. But the energy that I am expending to move my art into a world of recognition is consistent and on many fronts. Am I talking war? Not exactly. But there is a sense of hitting the target, finding the sweet spot, bringing home the vegan bacon… all of that.

First the fundraiser for the Rotary Centre for the arts has the web site that my dear friend Julia has put up to showcase the works. http://www.juliatrops.com/diamante/artistsinfo/hanson.html

I have done a submission to Energy Gallery because I really appreciate the work that David Cheung goes to to promote his artists. http://www.energygallery.com/

Today I am also finishing my submission to the 3rdward, for their fall show. I worked up images about my feelings of being a wild animal trapped in the kitchen. Scary and powerful. Don’t keep a jungle beast or a critter meant to run the veld in a kitchen. Nothing good can come of it. http://www.3rdward.com/

While I was working on other projects, I revisited some images that I have created for the Kelowna Art Gallery show INTERPLAY BETWEEN SELF AND FORM which will be submitted the 16th of October. http://www.galleries.bc.ca/kelowna/what%27s_new.htm

Also coming up is the Kamloops Art Gallery Art Auction. I was approached about submitting a piece to be in the community gallery for two weeks and then auctioned off as a fund raiser. I donated blue/gold which is one of my favorite pieces. I continue to try to support local and B.C. arts in the only way I can and that is through donations. http://www.kag.bc.ca/

I welcome any news about art opportunities, possible shows and certainly embrace the possibility of finding galleries out there in that vast world that are interested in carrying my work.

See, I am no longer combative. I am not using arms…except to embrace. It’s what they are meant to do.

May your day be filled with love and opportunity.Good girls like to cook

Tuesday All Day

Detail from building in Paris

Once again, Tuesday. Intentions are always fresh and dewy on Monday. Early lion catches the snakes. This week I will carry out all of my plans. Like lifting off in a plane, no matter how over cast the end of the last week was, no matter how much rain fell on the weekend, there will be sunlit clouds this week.

How difficult it is to stay in the seat. Thoughts are always to a future point in time, the destination or falling back down to earth in the darkness and pain of the past.

One of the most difficult things is to really see and experience the contact with others. My practice lately is to follow what Mr. Tolle suggests and to go into the inner body. I have also realized that I look AT a person’s eyes but not into them. In the last couple of months, I am able to look into the gaze of others. Not looking for what they can do for me, what harm they can do to me, what justification they can offer me. Just looking.

I am a master, a black belt, a consumately trained member of my family and my society. The years of discipline that I have put into ignoring my body, turning off my emotions, relating to others as if they were objects and not fragile, delicate beings, the impatience that I have practiced is awe inspiring. As Pema Chondra has observed in a rough paraphrase, if an individual can train themselves so well, it is excellent news. Now just use that skill and dedication to train for new goals.

The focus on art is a focus on spirit. The exploration of media and energy is an exploration of the inter-connectedness of self and universe. The path inward is a path outward. To be patient and not drive the process is so easy in my art. I ask for this same ease and self-care in the art of living.

Tuesday is a new day. All day.

What an incredibly well-attended and managed show this is. Sharon McCoubrey and her hardy group of volunteers organize an event with over 300 artists and 2000 pieces of art. Another benefit of this wonderful show is that it is the one place that artists in the valley can get together to see new work, to talk with one another, to exchange ideas and network.

I cursed when I saw the cheesecake man. Damn, I said to myself. He has heavenly gluten free cheese cake and I have to have it. There goes my diet/fitness pledge. The only problem is that my eyes are rolled back and I am totally dedicated to sucking the sugar off of the fork while I am eating it. Makes it hard to communicate with the art-tourists who are coming by.

We finally got my screen working so people can see some of the pictures that I shot in Europe. Today the sun is shining. The people will be there and maybe….maybe even some gluten free cheese cake.images of europe

Tuesday: Don’t cry over spilled lemonade

Cameron and I are working ten to twelve hour days again. The effort to step back and watch self while moving through the day takes discipline. So often we keep running our ships on the shoals of the same lessons. The heaving of the hull back into the water so the journey can continue becomes so repetitive and frustrating that the desire to find new seas to explore grows.

When will I get through THIS lesson and on to the next. Chaos. Things not put away. Hastiness. Trying to varnish an image and having the blacks wash thin. Monetary. Struggle to bring down the debt load. It is so tiring to keep revisiting the same issues without apparent resolution.

Wisdom lies, so I am told, in being able to observe yourself as if you were a child learning to walk. How many times do you hit your head on the coffee table before you learn to negotiate past it unbruised? Now that is depressing. One doesn’t take ten years to learn that passage.

I sit here with sticky fingers because the morning began like a slow strike in a bowling alley. The ball of anger hit the pins and I could only watch them wearisomely begin the impact…one thing to another. It ended with my hitting a full glass of lemonade all over my “important papers” and keyboard. A lovely, sweet, sticky beginning to the day.

When could the cascading anger have been stopped? Before it began, after the first pin fell of its base, before the entire floor was cleared or splattered with lemony syrup?

Sitting outside trying to calm myself, I allowed myself to feel the difference between sitting at a computer screen which feels like a contraction, an enclosing of energy to the feelings of expansion and openness that come with sitting outside in the summer morning. It is still early enough that the “cute” birds are chirping and not the raw call of the crows or the magpies that punctuate the afternoon. The air is gentle, moving and light without carrying the weight of humidity. So much promise in a summer morning.

And so… like the day. I begin anew.

Italy Again , Trevisan International Art

Community Sanga

I was contacted by Paola Trevisan who invited me to her exhibition of international artists at the Ferrara Museum of the Estense Castle. Perhaps we can combine that exhibition with the exhibition which is looming in Vienna.

Meanwhile, I got the roses pruned and weeded two garden beds. Always the mundane and simple to attend to first. Then on to the future. “All in good time,” is a phrase that reverberates in my head lately. Time is all good. “Things will happen as they should,” I soothingly tell myself.

The trick is to pause and see how much has been done. Those moments of congratulation for good work are necessary to motivate myself.

Getting away to Portland will be a wonderful break. It is a city with a very forward thinking political and urban structure. Even though I was born there and visit frequently, I am impressed at how the city has reinvented itself.

Thich Nhat Hahn emphasizes that a person, a family and a government should create a strategy. Once a strategy is in place, then there is less reactivity and the seduction of action for action’s sake is less appealing. It is nice to get away for a while, physically or spiritually. Once one returns, one is more likely to see with new eyes.

Tuesday night our local neighbourhood association meeting will be very interesting, in a good way. There are many issues in a neighbourhood that is across the railway tracks and right in the line of fire for extending the downtown. Our houses, built in the 40’s and 50’s are the last small structures, close to the ground with actual yards. We have seen the writing on the wall and we don’t appear in it. What action can home owners take in a world where the big money is all on the table against you? Perhaps it is inevitable, but some of us are busily upgrading and making our small jewel box homes even more beautiful. One can hope.
